2-Michelin Star restaurant, Opheem, by Aktar Islam is almost directly opposite The Octagon in Summer Row. Pushing the boundaries with Indian flavours, expect some traditional dishes and some very modern interpretations.
The restaurants of Paradise Birmingham are even closer – no roads to cross – and offer everything you could wish for: Cow & Sow is a B.Corp certified steak house with an outstanding wine list and La Bellezza (from the Big Mamma Group) serves up 100% homemade Italian dishes. Crowd pleasers Dishoom and Rosa’s Thai provide the curry and comfort food, while the alpine restaurant and bier hall Albert’s Schloss serves up food, beer and endless fun! Rounding out the offering is F1® Arcade where delicious food and cocktails can be combined with laps of world-famous race tracks.
A short stroll away from The Octagon is the Jewellery Quarter, home to some of the best bars, restaurants, coffee shops and pubs in Birmingham – many of them independents. At The Wilderness they serve provocative and playful tasting menus which change regularly as they’re built around the best produce available each week. Txikiteo is a Spanish-inspired, coal-fired small plates bar – think high-end tapas! Trentina serves up freshly-made, hand-rolled pasta with sauces and fillings made from scratch.
Also to be found in the Jewellery Quarter is Saint Paul’s Market – the perfect spot to go with groups if all of you like different foods! Here, independent traders can be found under one roof and you can taste your way around the world without ever leaving your seat. There are 7 kitchens, 2 bars and 500 seats set over 2 floors – along with a giant disco ball!
Birmingham also has its own Chinatown with supermarkets and shops as well as many Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Malaysian restaurants. At the heart of Chinatown is Chung Ying, a consistently award-winning Cantonese restaurant established in 1981. Another firm favourite in the area is Miyako Teppanyaki, Birmingham’s first Japanese restaurant.
